Fish farming
The fourth step in the aquaculture value chain is fish farming. As one of the leading feed suppliers to fish farming BioMar offers a variety of feed types adopted to modern farming techniques no matter if farming takes place in sea cages, recirculation systems, ponds, or other types of farms and our feed types are adopted to the special requirements imposed by e.g. differing climate conditions or environmental regulations. Through a close collaboration between our dedicated team of specialists and fish farmers around the world we continuously develop new feed types matching the changing requirements.
Increasing use of automatic feeding systems on modern fish farms is an example of such a change, which increases the need for a constant high physical quality of feed pellets. Damaged or soft pellets risk getting clogged in the system, when they are transported through tubes to cages or ponds by air or water pressure. Achieving a high physical quality is therefore one of the focus points in our development of process technology and always part of the process, when we develop a new feed type.

Environmental regulation is also changing farming methods and increases requirements to the fish feed. BioMar has for more than two decades been a pioneer in developing environment friendly feed types - feed types with an optimal balance of nutrients, so that the fish utilizes a maximum of the nutrients in the feed for growth, while a minimum of nutrients are lost to the water. A more efficient uptake of nutrients in the fish doesn’t only benefit the environment, but it also improves farm economy.
